News from SBMOC for July Marque Our monthly meeting was held at the Beacon on
June 5th with Candace preceding. We had 36 members
and 4 guests in attendance and quite a few of our vehicles in the
parking lot, most with tops down on a beautiful day. Past events
were reviewed. The May N & N in Gowensville had 5 in
attendance and probably will not be on the list of places to return
to. Bob Decapite attended Walter Mitty Road Atlanta and reported
that although the races were good, attendance was rather light. Most of the discussion was devoted to our major
club activity of the year, the Great Scot Car Show held at the
Greenville Highland Games, Furman University on May 29th.
John Dusky headed up this effort with assistance from wife
Shelia. Weather was almost perfect and what better place to hold
a car show than a grass covered, tree shaded green at Furman.
This year the featured manqué was Rolls Royce and unfortunately
we did not have much a Rolls showing. We did have a new
Rolls convertible on display although with a sticker of over ½
million there were no offers. Don’t know why, such a great
bargain with sales tax of only $300 in South Carolina. Don’t even
want to think about what the annual property tax would be.
Attending the games was his Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Earl of
Wessex who walked through the show and selected a favorite.
Thanks to the great effort by John and a lot of club members along
with experience from last year, the show went off without a hitch.
82 vehicles were entered which was 7 more than last year and we were
able to sell 65 “T” shirts and got $150 out of a 50-50 raffle.
A lot of comments were made by attendees that the show was great and
the location wonderful and they hope that we do it again next year.
Sam Maw provided lunches for members who worked the day of the show,
thanks Sam. Also Ann Moran has put together a photo album of the
show that is awesome. Future events discussed next. A rally
organized by Bob Decapite will be held June 12 and will end up
at Kings Mountain with a picnic lunch. Hopefully the weather
will cooperate for this one as the last one was cancelled due to rain.
July 3rd will be the regular meeting at the Beacon.
July 17 will be a N&N in the Hendersonville, NC arranged by Rich
Mills and Phyllis Kitchen. No details yet, check in at the
club web site. On November 8 the thru the 12th the
annual trip to Hickory Knob State Park will take place. For any
wanting to attend make reservations with the park and refer to the
Jerry Azzara group. Had the 50/50 drawing with $56 split and Bill Sapp being the winner. Meeting adjourned and out to the parking lot for some tire kicking. Dave Taylor

Kings Mountain Rally The weather cooperated for us and we had a total of eight cars make the run. Everyone got lost at one point (certainly could not have been the directions), and the road was blocked at another point due a rather major accident that pretty much destroyed an intersection, so it was not without it's drama. The overall winner was Larry and Donna Diaz who were the only ones who managed to answer every question correctly. Jerry and Brenda were a very close second with only one incorrect answer. The picnic lunch was excellent and a piece of Brenda's banana bread was worth the whole effort. The final drama concerned John Dusky's MGB which chose to stop pumping fuel. Larry came to the rescue as usual as he had a spare universal fuel pump in his boot. It took Larry about 15 minutes to get John on his way. |

Go to Member's Rides to see more. Club History On a cold February night in 1984, a small group of English car enthusiasts gathered at a restaurant near Inman, South Carolina, with the idea that maybe it would be a good thing to become a club. Over dinner, the group tossed ideas about; and the germ of what was to become the Southeastern British Motorcar Owners Club was planted. For full article. click here < Club History > Candy's notes, July, 2010 "The Prez Sez" Greetings to one & all! We have had a hot month, and now must think about several things! The Ellie Azzara Back to School Project: Please bring any type of school supply to the next 2 meetings! These items will be taken to the Campobello-Gramling Elementary School... Think about this: Should club members be asked to pay extra to defray costs of certain events? 1. The oyster roast, 2. The Soup & Shoot July N&N, and scenic ride Many thanks to Rich Mills & Phyllis kitchen for planning the ride to the "jump off rock", & dinner @ the Jacinto Restaurant in Hendersonville! Thank goodness, they knew that way to the rock, because it was raining too hard to do any exploring! We made it to the parking lot of the "jump off rock", but it was raining too hard to get out! At one point, we were looking for an ark! 7 car club mates went on this wet trek, & the McNamaras joined us @ the restaurant, having been delayed by a wreck on I-26! After dinner, everal of our group went over to see Rich's new home. Congratulations, Rich! Sheila Dusky & I have found a great place for the August N&N! It is the Mimosa Inn in Tryon. They will gladly accommodate our group on the veranda or in their lovely dining room. We can finalize this @ the meeting on August 7... Safety Fast! Candace
